31 Types of Writing Jobs from Home (With Minimal Effort to Start)
Interested in working from home? Ive been an online writer for five years now and I make a living with writing jobs I do from home. Ive always loved writing and as a teen, I often wrote poems and short stories. I was also the student in college that loved writing research papers! Yes, I was that person! Did you know there are many different types of writing jobs from home? I didnt know that when I first started either. Over time though, I learned all the different types of freelance jobs for writers and what type of services they requested. To prepare you as an online writer, I want to share with you different types of writing you might do from home. You can pick one or several types of writing jobs from this list for your business. Writing Jobs from Home 1. Blog Writing Jobs Blogging is by far the most popular type of content online that business want. Itââ¬â¢s also the easiest to find work for since there are many job boards that cater to blog writing jobs. Blog posts are typically between 800-1500 words and can include certain keywords for ranking in Google, magnetic headlines to draw people in and a call-to-action at the end of a post. You can niche down your blog writing to focus on long-form blog writing which means producing blog posts between 2,000-5,000 words long. These writing jobs from home are usually in-depth and require insider industry knowledge. Generally, blog posts are conversational and are written for the audience. You could write blog posts for small businesses, brands, coaches or other entrepreneurs. The blog topics vary from providing educational content to something more entertaining. If you pick up blog writing jobs know that many businesses need this type of content on a consistent basis. So, blog writing is a great recurring gig. More than half of my clients require weekly blog content. Itââ¬â¢s consistent, reliable and fun to do. 2. Ghostwriting Jobs Ghostwriting is when you ââ¬â the ghost writer ââ¬â writes online content for businesses, brands, magazines or entrepreneurs and isnt credited for it. You donââ¬â¢t receive any credit for your writing, so you canââ¬â¢t display your piece on your portfolio or market it on social media as your own. Why would you ghostwrite if you want to get your name out there and land clients? Because itââ¬â¢s a highly lucrative field. You can charge up to 3x more for a ghostwritten piece than for a piece with your author byline. I have several ghostwriting clients and Iââ¬â¢m interested in obtaining even more. I find these clients are easy to please and pay well. 3. Article Writing Jobs Both magazines and websites alike depend on article writers to provide new and unique content. There are many types of writing jobs from home and it just comes down to what you are interested in and what youre experienced in. Articles are more in-depth than blog posts and are usually journalistic in nature. For example, it may require interviews or for you to go search out a story. I was asked to do a story about buying a car from a femaleââ¬â¢s perspective. This writing job required me to actually go to a dealership and test drive a car. Articles pay well ââ¬â upwards towards a $1 a word ââ¬â but theyââ¬â¢re not usually recurring. Some magazines publish monthly or quarterly, rather than weekly. I encourage you to research further and narrow down your field of writing. For example, if you are interested in writing copy, then you can choose to pursue Etsy sellers or bigger websites or even stores that need catalog copy. Maybe you are interested in op-ed pieces, then you can choose to look into publications and magazines for that type of copy. 4. Press Release Writing Jobs A press release is a written statement to the media. Itââ¬â¢s used by a business to announce accomplishments, scheduled events, a launch, new products or even sales accomplishments. They continually need talented press writers to turn out newsworthy content and to get it placed in media outlets. I was asked to write a press release for a new meal delivery service. They wanted to get the word out about their product launching in their city. Press releases are typically short ââ¬â 400 to 800 words ââ¬â but can be a couple of pages long. Thereââ¬â¢s usually a system to writing a press release, so once you do one, you can use the same template on other press releases. For example, publicity firms can charge hundreds of dollars just to write these types of press releases. Many of these companies charge $325 per release. That said, offering $200 or lower to write a press release would be a steal for businesses that want this type of content. 5. Technical Writing Jobs If you have a strong technology background, then technical writing would fit right into your writing niche. Thereââ¬â¢s a great demand for WordPress writing, coding tutorials, web development tutorials and much more. Technical writers can also write manuals for companies, policies and procedure documents, technical guides and handbooks, evaluation reports, and research reports. Typically, a business hires an online writer to make their dry and boring guide more user-friendly. So, itââ¬â¢s our job to bring a little conversational element to a businessââ¬â¢ guide. Technical writing can be a profitable writing service because thereââ¬â¢s a high demand for this writing, but not a lot of freelancers supplying it. 6. White Paper Writing Jobs Many businesses use white papers as a marketing tactic, much like case studies. These papers are informative and designed to show off the product or service of the company. One of my clients had me write a white paper for recruiters on the common mistakes they make when hiring new people. Papers like these are written in a more academic setting, without the fluff online writing may have. White papers are also lucrative ââ¬â that the average price for a white paper is $5000 to $7000 ââ¬â but they can be time-consuming and itââ¬â¢s not for everyone. White papers are also a one-off job and arent recurring unless you are already a writer for this client. This type of writing job from home, though, is highly profitable because it takes more skill to write a white paper than it is to write a blog post. 7. SEO Writing Jobs SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Its purpose is to assist websites in ranking high in the Google search results. This is a big industry and many companies hire SEO businesses to help them with this. There are usually two types of clients seeking SEO content: Ones that require short writing pieces with relevant keywords placed throughout the post. Clients often batch these assignments and offer a low rate. For example, they may want 30 short posts for $10. Those types of writing jobs can be found on content mills or freelance market places like Upwork. The other writing job project may give you the keywords they want you to use and its your job to know where to place those keywords in your content to optimize that post for ranking in Google. These clients are typically good paying and value writing. If youââ¬â¢re new and not sure if youââ¬â¢re ready to make the leap into having a freelance business, you may want to consider doing some fast and small jobs like SEO writing. It will certainly give you the skills you need to write posts and it will introduce you to invoices and online payment systems. 8. B2C Writing Jobs This is business-to-customer writing that focusses on product-based content. This type of writing jobà is a little more fun and creative. You are writing directly from the business to the consumer. There would be few how-to types of content and more review, buying guides and tutorial-based content. For example, Walmart has a blog that focuses on B2C content. I enjoy writing B2C content because its more relaxed, conversational and the topic ideas for B2C is usually fun and creative. 9. B2B Writing Jobs This is business-to-business writing and tends to have quite a few rules and is less creative than B2C writing jobs. You are writing for a business to sell to other businesses. For example, writing for GoDaddy.com. There are different types of B2B writing jobs. The first is small brick and mortar businesses attempting to have an online presence or small online businesses. This can be your local auto insurance company or it could be a background security check firm. These small businesses usually hire ghostwriters to write for their blog or write their marketing content. The other camp is online businesses that cater to a large online audience and customer base. For example, I had a writing job for OptinMonster. My content spoke directly to small online business owners such as entrepreneurs and professional bloggers. Business to business writing is highly profitable and it is what has helped me make a living from writing. 10. Video Script Writing Jobs Even YouTube videos and commercials rely on script writing. Large websites who wish to expand its content into video will need freelance scriptwriters to help. And this is the perfect time to start looking at script writing jobs. The video marketing industry is an ever growing industry and it isnt stopping anytime soon. Entrepreneurs, bloggers, coaches and the like are creating videos ââ¬â for example with online courses ââ¬â and will seek out script writing to help their audience find the best way to learn their tactics. 11. Course Writing Jobs Piggybacking on script writing, you can also do some course writing jobs from home. As previously mentioned, businesses are opening up to a new content marketing strategy and using online learning to fulfill that space. Ive had previous clients wanting me to create course lessons for their digital marketing courses. These projects are usually huge projects that might take months to complete, but they are usually profitable for you! 12. Case Studies Many businesses use case studies as a marketing tactic to acquire more business. Case studies are used to tell the successes of their clients using their product or services. They demonstrate how a client found great results by using a particular product or service. Typically you would write a case study about an individual or a company. You may be asked to write a case study or use case studies in your content. For example, for one of my clients, they liked to feature a lot of case studies in their blog posts. I either researched the company or I interviewed one of the managers of the company. I thenà presented the analysisà of how a company achieved results in a certain part of their business. 13. Copywriting Jobs Stores need someone to write unique and engaging blurbs for all of their products. Copywriting uses the psychology of marketing to help businesses with promoting their brand and products. You may write landing pages, web copy, sales pages, call-to-actions, marketing campaigns or any type of content used to convert a user into a customer. Recently, I landed a copywriting job ââ¬â web copy ââ¬â and Iââ¬â¢m finding it a new experience to grow from. The only downside to copywriting is that itââ¬â¢s not recurring and often is a one-time gig. But, you might be surprised if the client is happy. They will contact you for other landing pages and marketing campaigns. The thing to remember with copywriting is that you are weaving in story-telling and writing to sell. 14. Email Marketing Writing Jobs Did you know that writing emails for companies is a big business? Writing email marketing campaigns is no joke. Businesses know that theà money is in the list, so having a highly conversion email is important for their business strategy. Email is where businesses cultivate warm leads and turn them into potential buyers. As an online writer for email marketing campaigns, you may be responsible for writing sales funnels, opt-in funnels and emails alerting subscribers of the latest deals and products. You would also be responsible for writing engaging newsletters and email headings. Many businesses depend on their email list to boost sales and increase customer interaction. 15. Magazine Writing Jobs Most of the content for magazine writing jobs will be article writing that is more journalistic than conversational. Your medium is things like trade publications, magazines, educational publications, and newspapers. Thereââ¬â¢s typically a certain style guide you have to follow like the Associated Press or Canadian Press. One of my first writing gigs was the online version of a cityââ¬â¢s newspaper. As such, I have to adhere to the Canadian Press way of writing. 16. Social Media Writing Jobs Some businesses rely heavily on their social media presence. They need to update their accounts every day, but this can be time-consuming for an entrepreneur or small business owner. While most companies wouldnââ¬â¢t just hire a freelance writer to do all their social media, you may be hired to do a couple of things such as: editing blog posts, writing blog posts and handling their social media account. Lauren Spear of Little Zotz Writingà is the editorial assistant at Copyblogger and she is in charge of their Twitter account. 17. Editing Jobs Editing is an easy addition to your freelance writing services since you already have to edit your own pieces before you submit them. There are generally three editing types you can perform for clients: Proofreading ââ¬â this means having a quick look at your content and checking for comma mistakes, spelling errors, or inconsistencies such as sometimes not capitalizing CTA in the piece. It doesnââ¬â¢t require much re-writing. Basic editing ââ¬â this requires more involvement than proofreading. On top of checking for spelling mistakes and punctuation mistakes, you are also checking stats and syntax. Developmental editing ââ¬â this is the most intrusive of all editing and the most expensive for businesses to hire out. With this type of editing, youââ¬â¢re changing entire sentences and paragraphs. Youââ¬â¢re adding new concepts and ideas. 18. Real Estate Writing Jobs Real estate agents need freelancers for a few different projects. For example, they may need writers experienced in SEO to help potential clients find their real estate site in their city. They also need writers to write engaging house listings that sell. As such, this type of content is industry-specific and requires a writer that knows the real estate industry inside and out. Because of this type of specific information, real estate writing jobs are highly profitable. 19. Product Description Writing Jobs Graphic design companies or printing companies often have clients that sell a wide array of products and goods. Many of these businesses seek out a writer that can produce highly optimized, SEO-driven product descriptions. If you have a knack for condensing information into 60-80 word blurbs, then you can niche yourself out as the product description writer! 20. Content Writing Jobs Content writing jobs from home are becoming more and more popular. With more people starting blogs every day, they are inadvertently learning the skills they need to be a content writer! Things like: Uploading content into a content management platform like WordPress Customizing their blog Creating lead magnets (free guides) to grow their email list Creating products and sales pages Writing blog posts to grow traffic and income All of these skills bloggers use can be used to help businesses with their content. From blog writing to writing lead magnets to growing their email list, there is no shortage of this type of writing jobs from home! 21. eCommerce Writing Jobs eCommerce companies have huge catalogs of products and big marketing budgets to get their brand out there. Many of these businesses seek out writers to write web copy for their products, buyer guides, brand guides, or category descriptions. Much of your writing might go to their distribution channels like Amazon or social media. 22. Gift Guide Writing Jobs Gift Guide writing jobs are a blend of product description writing and blog writing. Many brands and businesses use gift guides as a way to monetize their brand and share on social media. These guides need to be conversational and relatable to the people reading them. Instead of dry, feature-based content with no flair, gift guide writing jobs need a writer that is well versed in writing blogs and that understands online writing in general. One of my newest clients hired me for their gift guide campaign and their rate for an 1800 word gift guide is $500. This is a great writing gig for beginners and an easy way to gain some recurring writing jobs from home. 23. Grant Writing Jobs A grant writer creates research proposals that request funding from various government agencies. Grant writing is usually hired out by non-profits, universities, and the social service and healthcare field. A proposal involves writing the application, describing the reasons for funding and giving an overview of the applicant and its intentions. Grant writing has a steep learning curve to it, but once you pick it up, your help will be valuable (and profitable) to non-profit organizations. 24. Business Plan Writing Jobs New businesses and start-ups are launching every day. Just because someone is great at business does not mean they are a great wordsmith. Thats where you come in! If youve had experience in business planning and drafting up business plan proposals then this type of writing job can be your thing! 25. Legal Writing Jobs Law firms produce a lot of paperwork, so the help of a writer who knows legal lingo will be a great asset to any law firm. But for this profitable writing niche, you wont be able to fake it until you make it. You have to have had experience in a law firm or with legal writing to gain some writing jobs for lawyers. 26. News Writing Jobs A news writer is required to write the daily happenings before everyone else. Writing in this field is fast-paced and requires tight writing. I view this as the freelance journalist that travels or goes where the story goes. I researched my local newspaper to see if they hire freelance writers and you know what? They do. In this instance, they hire out stories and itââ¬â¢s your job to go interview the person or experience the story (like go to a soccer game) so you can write about it. While this was an awesome opportunity, at the time, it was something I couldnââ¬â¢t do (my schedule wouldnââ¬â¢t allow it). But, it was a great experience nonetheless. 27. Resume Writing Jobs Help others land the job of their dream while making some cash on the side. Many people need help with perfecting their resume and you can make that happen as a resume writer. While there are many resume writing service agencies available, you dont have to work under an agency. Having a writing job at home means you can contract the work out or offer it as a freelance service. I would head up schools, universities and friends family to find some potential gigs. 28. Quiz Writing Jobs One of the best remote writing jobs you can have is a quiz writing job. Believe it or not, but quizzes are becoming a very hot tool for brands and their social media marketing strategy. For example, Ramit Sethi of I Will Teach You to Be Rich uses a quiz as a way to gain subscribers to his email list. Many of these writing jobs can be found on social media 29. Greeting Card Writing Jobs An usual writing job you can do at home is creating greeting card blurbs for art and card companies. Finding these types of jobs might require some research online and social media. Simple running a Google search can help you find card companies that accepts paid submissions like: Calypso Cards RSVP Blue Mountain Arts 30. Book Writing Jobs You can start writing covers for books that you write for your own pleasure, but you can also write ebooks for websites and businesses. These are usually ghostwritten and allow the company to have something to give to consumers. A blogger or person might also want a book written about their life, business or product. They have a hard time writing it, so they hire it out to an online writer. The process of writing an eBook can be different for each gig. One gig may already have notes; you just have to combine them into a compelling story. Another person may want you to interview them and then use your notes to create an eBook. Still, others just need a short eBook for a ââ¬Å"freebieâ⬠they can give to their email subscribers. I wrote part of an eBook for a digital marketer. He supplied the points and I just expanded them. I never did eBook writing before because I assumed they were 60,000-word books and very time-consuming. It was a great learning experience and I am now open to taking on more book clients. 31. Web Writing Jobs A website writer writes content that you see on websites. The demand for it is higher than ever. Businesses of all stages and sizes ââ¬â whether itââ¬â¢s a new startup thatââ¬â¢s just tapping into the online world and creating a website, or an established company thatââ¬â¢s expanding and needs more pages on their site ââ¬â are looking for web content writers. As a web content writer, you would be working on a variety of pages, including (but not limited to) homepages, about pages, FAQs, product description pages, ââ¬Å"Why Us?â⬠pages, and more. Pricing varies depending on the length and depth of the site, but $50 to $75 per page is a VERY reasonable starting rate. Conversation Topics for College Office Hours
Conversation Topics for College Office Hours Its no secret: college professors can be intimidating. After all, theyre super smart and in charge of your education- not to mention your grades. That being said, of course, college professors can also be really interesting, really engaging people. Your professors likely encourage you to come speak with them during office hours. And you may, in fact, have a question or two youd like to ask. If youd like a few additional topics to have on hand for your conversation, consider any of the followingà things to talk to your professor about: Your Current Class If youre currently taking a class with a professor, you can easily talk about the class. What do you like about it? What do you find really interesting and engaging? What do the other students like about it? What recently happened in class that youd like more information on, that you found helpful, or that was just plain funny? An Upcoming Class If your professor is teaching a class next semester or next year that youre interested in, you can easily talk about it. You can ask about the reading load, what kinds of topics will be covered, what expectations the professor has for the class and for students taking the class, and even what the syllabus will look like. A Previous Class You Really Enjoyed Theres nothing wrong with talking to a professor about a previous class you took with him or her that you really enjoyed. You can talk about what specifically you found interesting and ask if your professor can suggest other classes or supplemental reading so that you can pursue your interests further. Graduate School Options If youre thinking about graduate school- even just a tiny bit- your professors can be great resources for you. They can talk to you about different programs of study, what youre interested in, what graduate schools would be a good match for your interests, and even what life as a graduate student is like. Employment Ideas It could be that you absolutely love botany but have no idea what you can do with a botany degree once you graduate. A professor can be a great person to talk to about your options (in addition to the career center, of course). Additionally, they may know of internships, job opportunities, or professional contacts that can help you along the way. Anything Covered in Class That You Loved If you recently went over a topic or theory in class that you absolutely loved, mention it to your professor! It will undoubtedly be rewarding for him or her to hear about, and you can find out more about a topic you didnt know youd love. Anything Youre Struggling With in Class Your professor can be a great- if not the best- resource for getting clarity or more information about something youre struggling with. Additionally, a one-on-one conversation with your professor can provide you with an opportunity to walk through an idea and ask questions in a way that you simply cannot do in a large lecture hall. Academic Difficulties If youre facing larger academic struggles, dont be too afraid to mention it to a professor you like. He or she might have some ideas to help you out, might be able to connect you with resources on campus (like tutors or an academic support center), or just might give you a great pep talk that helps your refocus and recharge. Personal Problems That Are Impacting Your Academics While professors arent counselors, its still important for you to let them know about any personal problems youre facing that might be having an effect on your academics. If someone in your family is very sick, for example, or if youre financially struggling because of an unexpected change in financial status, it might be helpful for your professor to know. Additionally, it can be wise to mention these kinds of situations to your professor when they first appear instead of when they become a problem. How Current Events Connect With the Course Material Many times, the material(s) covered in class are large theories and concepts that dont always seem like they connect to your day-to-day life. In reality, however, they often do. Feel free to talk with your professor about current events and how they might connect to what youre learning in class. A Letter of Recommendation If youre doing well in class and you think your professor likes and respects your work, considerà asking your professor for a letter of recommendationà if you need one. Letters of recommendation that have been written by professors can be especially helpful when youre applying for certain types of internships or even graduate school or research opportunities. Study Tips It can be all too easy to forget that professors were once undergraduate students, too. And just like you, they likely had to learnà how to study at the college level. If youre struggling with study skills, talk to your professor about what theyd recommend. This can be an especially helpful and important conversation to have before an important midterm or final, too. Resources on Campus That Can Help Academically Even if your professor wants to help you more, he or she might simply not have the time. Consider, then, asking your professor about other academic support resources that you can use, like a specific upper-class or graduate-level student whos a great tutor or a great TA who offers extra study sessions. Scholarship Opportunities Your professor undoubtedly receives regular mailings and emails about scholarship opportunities for students interested in certain academic fields. Consequently, checking in with your professors about any scholarship opportunities they know about might easily result in some helpful leads that you might otherwise not find out about. Jop Opportunities True, the career center and your own professional network can be your main sources of job leads. But professors can also be a great resource to tap into. Make an appointment with your professor to talk generally about your job hopes or options as well as what connections your professor might know about. You never know what former students they still keep in touch with, what organizations they volunteer with, or what other connections they may have to offer. Dont let your nervousness about talking with your professors disconnect you from what could be a great future job!

Personal research on topics for Information Technology and Human Paper
Personal on topics for Information Technology and Human Factors - Research Paper Example This important information is greatly needed for the assessment, diagnosis, prevention, management and treatment of various diseases, and making sure it arrives as fast as possible to save many lives. Because of the vast information available through the use of nursing informatics, practice will become safer because the practitioners will have access to more knowledge, keeping them informed of procedures, warning signs, potential outcomes, and alternative treatment options. Nursing informatics is also responsible for bringing up-to-date vital information on the patient which is crucial for health care practitioners in the monitoring of the patient. It can also help with the nursing shortage by allowing the nurse and other health care practitioners to perform with more speed and efficiency, giving them more time to handle more patients (Staggers & Thompson, 2002). 2. Given the growing net-savvy, empowered consumers, how will you transform your practice to accommodate these patients? T he internet age has brought about many innovations in information and communications technology. ... On the other hand, it can also mislead many people. The overwhelming amount of information on the internet also includes a lot of outdated, poorly researched, misinformed, and even outright deceptive information. This clashes with other information and confuses the general public as to which ââ¬Ëspecialistââ¬â¢ is actually right, or is telling the truth. Using nursing informatics in health education requires nurses to provide quality content that is backed by extensive research to help the general public find the right information for the sake of their health. A study made by Hubner, Ammenwerth, Flemming, Schaubmayr, and Sellemann (2010), and Hubner and Sellemann (2004) showed how Austrian and German hospitals are increasing usage of IT technology. Aside from generating and disseminating useful information to the public about health, the main role of the informatics nurse is to use information structures, information processes, and information technology to support the health c are team in all situations in the provision of care. Some ways to do this is to conduct trainings for the medical staff in the usage of new technology in health care; shifting from physical records to completely digital records is underway, but requires training for the staff both old and new as they adapt to the changes (McCormick, et al., 2007; Staggers & Thompson, 2002). 3. What are the top three human computer interface issues that you identify for an informatics tool you expect to use in our organization? And what ideas or suggestions do you have to address these top three HCI issues? One of the very useful informatics tools slowly gaining use in the modern medical field is the computerized physician order entry (CPOE). It is a system designed to reduce

Benefits of Strategic Management - Essay Example Companies that utilize strategic management can greatly benefit from its implementation. Strategic management allows managers the ability to forecast the future. The proper use of strategic management can increase the productivity and profitability of a business. An example of a strategic management decision is using only a few of the patents a company develops in order to postpone the release of new products for the future. An industry in which this occurs a lot is the pharmaceutical industry. Another benefit of strategic management is that it can be used to change the corporate culture of a company. The use of strategic management can also help an organization gain a competitive advantage. The accounting department benefits from strategic management because it allows the firm to make better budgeting decisions (Hainescentre, 2012). Planning for the future allows a firm the ability to predict future expenditures and income streams. Strategic management can also be used to improve decision making (Robinson, 2005). Robinson, R. The practice behind this theory is to heavily finance research and development and have had the necessary means of production to cover all areas of the business. Marketing and advertising are also a key component in Apple strategy to have a better market position. Founded in 1976, Apple built its early reputation on innovative personal computers that were particularly easy for customers to use and as a result were priced higher than those of competitors. The inspiration for this strategy came from a visit by the founders of the company- Steven Jobs and Steven Wozniack- to the Palo Alto research laboratories of the Xerox company in 1979. They observed that Xerox had developed an early version of a computer interface screen with the drop-down menus that are widely used today on all personal computers. Jobs and Wozniack took the concept back to apple and developed their own computer- the Apple Macintosh (Mac) that used this consumer friendly interface. The Macintosh was launched in 1984 but Apple did not sell or share the software to rival companies. Over the next few years, this non-co-operation strategy turned out to be a major weakness for Apple. Although the Mac had initial success, its software was threatened by the introduction of windows 1.0 from the rival company Microsoft, whose chief executive was the well-known Bill Gates. Microsofts strategy was to make this software widely available to other computer manufacturers for a license fee- quite unlike Apple. A legal dispute arose between Apple and Microsoft because windows had many on-screen similarities to the Apple product. Eventually, Microsoft signed an agreement with Apple saying that it would not use Mac technology in windows 1.0 Unlike Microsoft with its focus on software strategy, Apple remained a full-line computer manufacturer from that time, supplying both the hardware and software. Apple continued to develop various innovative computers and related products. Early successes included the Mac2 and PowerBooks along with the worlds first desktop publishing programme- PageMaker. This latter remains today the leading programme of its kind. It is widely used around the world in publishing and fashion houses. It remains exclusive to Apple and means that the company has a specialist market where it has real competitive advantage and can charge higher prices. Not all Apples new products were successful- the Newton personal digital assistant did not sell well. Apples high price policy for its products and difficulties in manufacturing also meant that innovative products like the iBook had trouble competing in the personal computer market place. In the year 2000, Apple identified a new corporate strategy to exploit the growing worldwide market in personal electronic devices- CD players, MP3 players, digital cameras etc. It would launch its own Apple version of these products to add high-value, user friendly software. Resulting products included iMovie for digital cameras and iDVD for DVD players. The iPod was launched in 2001 and was followed by the iTunes Music store in 2003 in USA and 2004 in Europe. The product has proven unbelievably successful; over 100 million units have been sold in the six years since its introduction. In 2003, Apples iTunes Store was introduced, offering online music downloads in integration with the iPod. The service quickly became the market leader in online music services, with over 3 billion downloads by August 2007. Steve Jobs announced that iTunes had reached 4 billion downloads during his keynote address at the 2008 Macworld Conference Expo. The iTunes was essentially an agreement with the worlds 5 leading record companies to allow legal downloaded of music tracks using the internet for 99 cents each. This was a major success for Apple- it had persuaded the record companies to adopt a different approach to the problem of music piracy. At the time, this revolutionary agreement was unique to Apple and was due to the negotiating skills of Steve Jobs, the Apple chief executive, and his network of contacts in the industry. By 2005, Apples music player- the iPod- was the premium priced, stylish market leader with around 60% of the world sales. Its iTunes download software had been redeveloped to allow it to work with all windows compatible computers (about 90% of all PCs) and it had around 70% of the world music download market, the market being worth around US$330 million per annum. However, by 2005, all the major companies like Sony, Philips and Panasonic were catching up fast with new launches that were just as stylish, cheaper and with more capacity. Apples competitors were even reaching agreements with the record companies to provide legal downloading of music from websites. Another Example of the likely competition came from the mobile telephone market leader, Nokia, and the dominant software company Microsoft. In February 2005, they jointly announced that all new Nokia mobile phones would come with Microsofts Windows media 10, allowing downloading of music from PCs onto mobile phones- yet another threat to apple. However Apple was the market leader and was able to demonstrate major increases in sales and profits from the development of iPod and iTunes by early 2005. One thing that has been established is that Apple releases a few versions of one great computer and then offers new software that easily integrates with the other software. Well, Apple has a lot of software that only within the last 4 or so years began to integrate with PC things as well as hardware. For this reason Apple has only been able to gain supplies from a limited set of suppliers, leaving Apple in a vulnerable position. However, one of Apples competencies is a great designing department. They come up with fun looking machines and professional looking machines. The other important thing is the size and the colour of the machine. Distribution Apple has many forms of distribution from their own retail outlet, to business to business selling, to their online store. First there are the Apple retail stores; most of these will be found in major cities across the US and the UK. From these or the website anything can be offered to customers and the products can be even more personalized than they already are. Their most important deals are probably with education. For years they have been offering their computers to schools for years and have grown a large following just from the children that are familiar with Apple and comfortable with Apple interface. This also allows Apple to watch market trends since their market is also people between 20 and 30 years old. The young children will be the future so Apple simply watches what they are interested in. Their final bit of distribution comes from other warehouse companies or help desk companies that need the Apple parts and products to fix peoples computers. There are also third party stores that might display the product amongst several other laptop options. Their main manufacturing, development, designing stuff can be found in California and in Ireland. These two points must serve as umbrellas under which warehouses and retail shops would order or receive from them. Marketing stratergy I think Apples main stratergy is there appeal to their customers. What you find in general with many of their products more btter looking than the competitions. One thing we can see is Apple building on the popularity of the iPod. It appeals to the Mass market. Now appeal less as a computer company and more of a electronics company and seem more user-friendly. Apple have a differentiation stratergy. Apple products are known to have a unique appeal, with its sleek designs a userbility. Due to this it gets a lot of attention from consumers and the media. Without much advertising or marketing on their part. They give something new and unique to talk about which everybody gets pulled in to. With the iPod there not only selling a mp3 player, there selling a social chic. Everybody has one and everybody wants one. Target Market Apple Ipod focused particularly at those between the age of 12-25, consistent with their advertising. Bright colours and a man dancing. It will appeal to both males and females People who have a passion or interest in music and/or literature Technology enthusiasts The iPod appeals to the mass market, everyone is a potential customer. Young or old. They have music, literature and podcasts all avaiable for the iPod owners. The simplicity and sleek design is what attracts people. Although the latest ones (the touch) are expensive, and may be aimed at higher and older earners. Word count 1371 Appropriate models, such as environmental analysis, industry analysis, lifecycle, analysis, resource analysis, swot and pest analysis, Porters 5 forces etc (these do NOT form part of the word count). PESTEL-Analysis: Economical aspects: Inflation currently has increased in UK and the US and may affect current sales of ipods which have already slowed. Global economy in a down turn The exchange rate will also affect Apple as they are importing or exporting goods within the international market. Socio-cultural aspects: Again Anti-American agenda may cause potential customers to but from another company. A generally aging British population, so many may be put off by the technology As much as it is a iPod culture, it can go away as quickly as it came. People may find something else which is better and more value for money. Technical aspects: The wide range of fast changing high-tech/high-quality download possibilities, encourages consumers to download but it also puts more pressure on competing firms, as they have to stay up-to-date with the newest technologies. Considerable developments in the mobile phone market (3G handsets becoming reality and expanded features available to the customer) will push the multimedia download market into new spheres and will open up great opportunities for Apple. Many substitutes available from iRiver, Samsung and Sony. Competition moving away from copy protection on songs, Such as Amazon. Peer-to-peer file sharing applications like Lime wire and Kazaa are still extremely popular. Although this is a problem with the music industry on a whole. This still however affects iTunes. Legal aspects: Issues of copyrights and illegal downloads greatly affect the music download industry and are a major problem for active legal providers. A former lack of legislation in this area has encouraged consumers away from commercial downloading services and as a response to this, new technologies have been introduced that protect the copyright of owners and prevent customers to download and share files illegaly. Digital Rights Managment (DRM) was created to control the number of copies that can be made from a download and although for the music industry there are many positive aspects to DRM, there are surely as many negative for the consumer. Therefore, some companies have already planned to open big portals on DRM-Free tracks that will legally enable the consumer to download files without being limited to a certain number of computers, portable digital devices and CD burns for a reasonable price. Source: Corporate Stratergy finntrack.com Porters 5 Forces: Substitute products: A substitute product is not a direct alternative to the product a company is selling. For example, the new Sony Walkman media player is not a substitute for the iPod Touch, it is a competitor. However, a personal CD player or MP3 player could be if certain aspects of the market were to change, e.g. price and there was a high elasticity of demand. In the case of iTunes, with music there is a wide range of options for buying music and therefore are many substitutes within the music industry, for example tapes, CDs, vinyl and DVDs. All of these are easily accessible and just as convenient as downloading from the internet. The benefit which iTunes has is that you do not have to buy whole albums; you can download songs individually and at a fraction of the cost of a single song on another format. Also you are able to buy movies, TV shows, audio books and Podcasts, all available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Reports by Mintel have shown that sale price and the volume of sales is falling f or non digital media, consequently as a result of internet downloading. The Threat of new Entrants: Already, there are hundreds of media downloading sites available to use on the internet. Some are legal and some are not. It is more difficult to block and put barriers up for illegal entrants into the market because they are not abiding by the law and therefore do not have patents, licences or the rights to distribute media, but still do. With legitimate start up companies, there are capital requirements, possible patents licences to obtain and ultimately the prospect of competing with already well established and reputable companies such as iTunes. Mintel predicts that there will be an influx of new companies willing to invest in the online downloading industry. A big threat for Apple constitutes the entrance of Amazon into the market. The company announced the launch of a new music download portal that offers a wide range of DRM-Free tracks to a reasonable price. Since there are many advantages to DRM-Free tracks, like the fact that users can legaly copy the files without being r estricted to a certain number of copies, consumers are expected to highly welcome the new download store. Apple has to be aware of the fact, that it could lose both new and old customers by restricting them to Digital Rights Management tracks that can only be played on Apples iPod and not on any MP3 capable device, as it is the case with Amazon. Bargaining Power Of Customers: Due to the vast range of direct alternatives and substitutes, iTunes needs to price competitively as well as maintaining reputation and range availability. Consumers are easily swayed to alternative products, especially the ease and free use of illegal downloading sites and therefore need to be drawn in to using legal downloading sites like iTunes. Consumers have great power due to their ability to buy from any one competitor in the music industry and can therefore potentially dictate prices by constantly buying from the cheapest company, thus forcing competitors to reduce prices. Obviously one customer would not make a difference, but collectively customers are strong. As for the Apple iPhone, it has to be considered that network providers have great power over the company, as they could decide not to sell the iPhone or put pressure on the company that forces them to pay a certain amount of their revenues to the provider. At the moment, Apple has restricted itself to one provider, O2, and therefore greatly depends on them selling the iPhone but this will surely change over time. Bargaining Power of Suppliers: Similarly to bargaining power of customers, there is the bargaining power of suppliers. iTunes have to submit to the requirements of the consumer market to be competitive, but on the other hand have the ability to bargain with their suppliers due to the size and reputation of the company, thus they are a supplier and a customer. Due to the volume of sales that iTunes have, it would be foolish for companies such as SonyBMG, Universal, Warner and EMI to not compromise on the costs and rights to distribute their music, as their success in the music download market highly depends on the successful distribution of their music, mainly through Apple. This fact clearly limits the bargaining power of suppliers to a certain degree, although Apple has to consider that without their music iTunes could not function as efficiently as the market demands. Therefore a compromise must arise that suits both companies, a possible agreement could be initial fees plus percentage of sales. Intensity of Rivalry: Although the amount of companies operating in the music download market is pretty high, Apple is the clear market leader. Still the multimedia download market is a market in its growth phase with fast changing technologies and many new companies entering the market. At the moment, it seems very unlikely that a company could seriously threaten Apples market position but the company has to be aware of the fact that there are other big multinational companies trying to enter the market with new technologies and ways of offering their services. SWOT-Analyses: Strengths: Apple is the clear market leader in the music downloadand steady financial performance. Revenues have grown from $5,742 million in 2002 to $19,315 million in 2006 and the companys net profit has increased from $65 million in 2002 to $1,989 million in 2006 (Datamonitor, 2007). Steady financial growth shows the good financial state of the company and builds the base for future growth and expansion. Also, the company has a very strong branding and enjoys a high level of brand recognition and brand awareness that allows the company to differentiate its offers and stimulate sales. Strengths of the company is defined by its successful distribution of the iPod and its software iTunes. With every iPod sold, the consumer automatically installs iTunes on his pc, as it is only possible to download music from Apples original software to an iPod. Moreover, Apple products are being considered as hip, stylish and fashionable which is increasingly becoming important for consumers. Furthermore, Apple devices and software attract customers for their convenience, their ease of use and for always being up-to-date with the newest technology. Apple has also collaborated with large brand companies like Nike, Starbucks, Coca Cola and Google, which has had beneficial impacts on both Apple and their partners and has created a new profile, e.g. linking sports and music culture. Weaknesses: First off all there is to say that although the interconnection between the iPod/iPhone and iTunes has been a key factor to Apples success this restriction could become a problem in the future, as more and more customers are looking for devices and online portals that allow them to download MP3s to any MP3 capable device. Moreover, Apple has only a very limited offer of DRM-Free tracks on iTunes, which can be defined as a strong weakness since an increasing number of customers fancy DRM-Free downloads. Another weakness for Apple lies in its pricing, especially for its iPhone. A Mintel research about the mobile phone market in the UK defined pricing and costs to be the most important factor when it comes to purchasing a phone (Mintel, 2007). Also, the iPhone currently doesnt allow the costumer to directly download files to the mobile, which, compared to the new Nokia N-Series, is a enormous weakness, since it could prevent customers to buy the Apple device and go for the Nokia handset instead. This could lead to a loss of Apples market share to its competitor Nokia. Also, technically, the iPhone isnt quiet as good as its competitor the Nokia N95, as it runs on a slower mobile data service and comes only with a 2 Megapixel camera. Another weakness for Apple is, that theyve only chosen one operator in each country where the iPhone is available and thus has restricted the consumers choice of network operators. Threats: The comanys biggest threat probably constitutes the entrance of Nokia into the digital download market. By providing the opportunity to directly download files to a handset device, Nokia could gain some of Apples a market share in the digital download market, since customers are increasingly fancying mobile downloads that dont restrict them to a bulky pc or laptop. The mobile download market is one of the most opportunity-rich markets the world has ever seen, as Nokias Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo states (Halper,2007), and if Apple doesnt catch up fast on this opportunity it is running risk to loose its superiour market position to Nokia. Another threat for Apple constitutes the launch of online portals that are specialized in marketing DRM-Free tracks. More and more customers are looking for music that doesnt restrict them to a certain number of copies or to a special device as it is the case with iTunes and the iPod. Although Apple is currently trying to improve its choice of DRM-Free tracks, it still lacks the greater choice and lower price of companies such as Amazon which could lead to custmers switching over from Apple to those in terms of DRM more convinincing sites. Also the threat of illegal download sites would have an negative impact, due to the availability of free digital content that could sway customers away from Apples iTunes. Opportunities: Although currently especially the youth customer segment is seen as the major target group for downloading, as these customers seem to be less restrictive towards new technologies, providing more substantial and sophisticated products and services for older and wealthier people could proof very profitable for Apple. With the launch of its iPhone Apple has already done an important move into the mobile phone market that might allow the company to challenge its biggest threat Nokia on their home market. As more and more customers are increasingly becoming aware of innovative techologies and of the benefits arising out of Internet downloading Apple should now take advantage of the great opportunities arising from the fast growing mobile phone download market by making its services directly downloadable to its iPhone as its rival Nokia has already done. Also, the upcoming change in the digital download industry towards ad-supported content could be an opportunity for Apple, if the compan y manages to strike advertising deals with companies that allow Apple to offer services for free to customers who agree to watching ads. This could bring a whole new bunch of customers to the company. Although these customers wont have to pay for the add-supported services, they will probably buy an iPod or an iPhone or another Apple hardware device. Resource Analysis:- The resources of an organisation include its human resource skills, the investment and the capital in every part of the organisation. Apple has advantages in the production and marketing of its new iPod music player and associated software that set the standards for the industry. It had also invested heavily in branding its products and the Apple retail stores that sold its products. All these were part of its resources. Apple takes supplies it buys in- such as components, energy, skills and capital equipment and then uses its own resources and expertise to create a product from these supplies- such as a computer or an iPod- that has a value which is higher than the combined value of all the supplies which have been used to make the product. Environmental Analysis:- Organisations need to develop corporate strategies that are best suited to their strengths and weaknesses in relation to the environment in which they operate. For example, Apple faces a highly competitive environment for its competitors in relation to the American companies such as Dell, Hewlett Packard. In addition, the company had to cope with changing levels of economic growth in many markets around the world, which influenced the decisions of its customers to purchase new computers.

The Life and Times of William Rufus de Vane King :: Essays Papers
The Life and Times of William Rufus de Vane King William Rufus de Vane King was a distinguished politician who concluded his remarkable political career by being elected the Vice-President under Franklin Pierceââ¬â¢s pro-slavery ticket. However, he is the only person to be elected to that office that never actually served as vice-president. Without doing this, King is known through history as a popular and pre-eminent politician from Alabama. Besides being the only vice-president elected to not serve his term, he is the only United States official to take the oath of office on foreign land. Instead of taking the oath of office in the nationââ¬â¢s capital, William King took the oath in Havana, Cuba. Unfortunately, less than one week after Inauguration Day, King died at the age of sixty-seven of tuberculosis. In those years prior to his death, King made several pertinent contributions to the United States political system. King began his life on April 7, 1786. He was born on a lovely spring day in Sampson County, North Carolina. His inheritance from different backgrounds was evident. The values and morals that his parents instilled within him caused young Kingââ¬â¢s actions. His father was of Irish descent that was a planter who sometimes served in the state legislature. His father also served dutifully during the Revolutionary War and was a member of the convention that was called to adopt the federal constitution. His mother had a touch of Huguenot ancestry. William King was a tall and slender man. His physique was gracefully erect, and he was always generous and courteous. This characteristic came from the upbringing from his parents. He was very humble. He was not arrogant or boasted about his accomplishments. King never married. However, there were rumors spread that there was a relationship between him and President James Buchanan. It was known that King and Van Buren shared a twenty-year intimate friendship. They shared quarters in Washington, D.C. for many years, and Buchanan called their relationship a communion. A law partner of James K. Polk labeled the two Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan. King was born when the United States was young and developing.

How Religion Positively Influence The World Essay
Religion has played a very significant role in human life right from the moment the individual could realize the fact of his existence and made an effort to understand it in relation to the vast, outer nature. Whether we like it or not, religion has wielded immense influence on the individual life and the society constituted by him. August Comte has stated that the evolution of mankind took place through three stages, which he has described as theological, metaphysical, and positive states. Scholars have made efforts to understand the origin of religion in their own ways. For example, Hegel and James Frazer thought that religion is born out of magic; E. B. Taylor on the other hand saw the origin of religion in animism; Herbert Spencer expressed the opinion that religion came into being because of cult of ancestor worship; Max Muller propounded the view that a feeling of awe towards nature was responsible for the birth of religion; Emile Durkheim came out with a view according to which religion is a product of rights and rituals characterizing a society. Religion is the phenomena, which is accepted by the people of the whole world. Weather directly or indirectly. Each and every person of the world have accepted religion because it only the religion by which whole world is controlled. If the religion is not there no body would control him/herself by the evil deeds. Only the mane of God controls the human being by doing evil deeds. Before doing the wrong deed every person feels that God is looking at him/her. Religion influences society but happily the street is many bible-quoting Christians vehemently opposed two ways the abolitionist movement of mid nineteenth century . And we cannot say that these sincere believers were merely citing passages out of context. It must be admitted that the whole biblical era and the writers of holy writ condoned gross inequality included slavery Similarly Christianity and the other world religions were obviously founded in and influenced by a common sexist past, one which unfortunately continues in varying degrees to live in and through them. So society has and can positively influenced religion. This is necessary unless religion is to retreat to pre rational forms of argument and support absolutism that today claims limited respect. John Cobb jr. shows insight in his modest contention that ââ¬Å" in addition to grounding and motivating the ethical concern it shares with secular humanism, religious faith provide an ethos and a world view and it affects the people and communities involved. â⬠Americans Struggle with Religionââ¬â¢s role at Home and Abroad: As a religious people, Americans are unsure about how to judge a world that seems increasingly in conflict along religious lines. The public overwhelmingly sees religionââ¬â¢s influence in the world and the nation as a good thing. And by 51%- 28%, Americans think the lesson of September 11 is that there is too little, not too much religion in the world. But the public does not see all of religionââ¬â¢s effects as positive. A 65% majority believes that religion plays a significant role in most wars and conflicts in the world. Further, while most say that Islam is no more likely to encourage violence than Other religions, a plurality of Americans believes that, in general. ââ¬Å" Some religionsâ⬠are more likely than others to encourage violence. Those who think that some religions are more violent than others are more likely to see widespread anti America n sentiments among Muslims. The Christian writer Paul wrote, ââ¬Å" God will give to each person according to what he has done. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism. All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and the law will judge all who sin under the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in Godââ¬â¢s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them). Young People More Influenced Positively: A majority of those under age 30 express a favorable view of Muslim- Americans, Muslims, and Islam alike (57%, 57% and 51% respectively). Other Americans generally have a favorable opinion of Muslim-Americans; however, they express more skepticism toward Muslims and Islam. Americans age 65 and older in particular express mixed views when it comes to Muslims and Islam. By 43%- 25%, members of this group say they feel favorably towards Muslim Americans, but seniors who were asked about Muslims rated them less positively (30% favorable 30% unfavorable). Just one- in- four has a favorable opinion of Islam, while 37% express an unfavorable opinion. College- educated Americans also express more favorable views of Muslims and Islam than those who did not attend college. Education has particularly strong effect on perceptions of the Islamic religion. While about half (52%) of college graduates have a favorable view of Islam, just 29% of those who never attended colleges agree. Among religious groups, white evangelical Protestants have the least favorable view of Islam. Fully 45% of white evangelical say they have an unfavorable opinion of Islam, compared with just 29% who rate religion favorable. White evangelicals also are most likely to say they have an unfavorably view of Muslim-Americans. As many as three- in ten feel unfavorably toward Muslim-Americans, compared, with about two-in ten among other major religious groups. Still, this is less than the 38% of white evangelicals who rated Muslim-Americans unfavorably a year ago. Modern Reasons for Adherence To Religion: 1. Authority: Most religions are authoritarian in nature, and thus provide their adherents with spiritual and moral role models, who they believe can bring highly positive influences both to adherents and influences both to adherents and society in general. 2. Supernatural connection: Most religions postulate a reality which includes both the natural and the saupernatural. Most adherents of religion consider this to be of critical importance, since it permits belief in unseen and otherwise potentially unknowable aspects of life, includeing hope of eternal life. 3. Moderation: Many religions have approaches that produce practices that place limitations on the behaviour of their adherents. This is seen by many as a positive influence, potentially protecting adherents from the destructive or even fatal excesses to which they might otherwise be susceptible. Many people from many faiths contend that their faith brings them fulfillment, peace, and joy, apart from worldly interests. 4. Fulfillment: Most traditional religions require sacrifice of their followers, but, in turn, the followers may gain much from their membership therein. Thus, they come away from experiences with these religions with the feeling that their needs have been filled. In fact, studies have shown that religious adherents tend to be happier and less prone to stree than non-religious people. 5. community ans culture: Organized religions promote a sense of community among their followers, and the moral and cultural common ground of these communities makes them attractive to people with the same value. Indeed, while religious belief and practices are usually connected, some individual with substantially secular belief still participates in religious practices for cultural reasons. Conclusion: Religious belief refers to a faith or creed concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine. It may concern the existence, nature and worship of a diety or deities and divine involvement in the universe and human life. It may also relate to the values and practices based on the teaching of a supernatural leader. Unlike other belief syatems, religious belief tends to be codified. While often used synonomously with religion, according to this religious belief wikk be assumed to refer to ideas rather than practices. Religion cannot add or subtract any thing from the plausibility of any scientific theory. But this does not mean that religion has no connection with science. Our proposal, perhaps appearing a bit audacious in tone but actually quiet modest in motivation, is that religion, properly understood, confirms the entire scientific enterprise. It does so by justifying g the fundamental trust that nourishes all scientific in query. Our conviction is that we can go beyond conflict, contrast, and even contact in formulating religions relationship to science. Here we are claiming specifically that faith in a personal god has a unique capacity to confirm our trust in realityââ¬â¢s endless intelligibility, a trust without which scientific in query is hopelessly crippled Religion is a phenomenon, which is propagated in the whole world. Each and every person has adopted and positively influenced with it. Whether a person is male or a female they make prayers and always feel his appearance they have accepted the existence of God, who always looked after them. Most of the people spiritually and psychologically come into contact with God, truth and spiritual power. They feel that the religion frees them from deception, sin and spiritual death. Religion has its own significance in the life of human being. References: 1- The Divine Religion; Bhagawat Dharma and Culture; R. N. Vyas; Cosmo Publication New Delhi;1984. 2- What is a Person? The Bad Seed Essays
The Bad Seed Essays The Bad Seed Paper The Bad Seed Paper There were many scenes in the movie The Bad Seed where it showed visual examples supporting the Freudian theories. It especially shined on the character Rhodaââ¬â¢s motives for her behaviors. According to Freudââ¬â¢s theory, ego is when you are out of your childhood level and actually take in consideration for other people more than yourself. However, Rhoda does not display any ego in herself as she does not give any consideration for other people in reality. The Freudââ¬â¢s theory also states that ID is when you are at a babyââ¬â¢s level and donââ¬â¢t know anything of whatââ¬â¢s going on in reality and just whine for what you want. Rhodaââ¬â¢s behavior strongly amplifies ID because she is extremely childlike and spoiled. She is also self-serving and wants everything at that moment while taking no considerations for other people around her. Trying to be perfect is defined as superego according to the Freudian theory and this also has no part when describing Rhoda. Itââ¬â¢s because she is not even trying to be a perfect self which equals a weak superego. On the other hand, Rhodaââ¬â¢s mother Christine is more on the superego side because of her thought of having a perfect family but ended up realizing that she herself is not a perfect woman. She notices this during her unconscious stage. According to the Freudian theory that was studied, Rhodaââ¬â¢s ID overpowering her ego and superego is whatââ¬â¢s wrong with her. Also, she obviously cares more about herself than others in reality. In the Maslowââ¬â¢s Hierarchy of Needs, most of Rhodaââ¬â¢s basic needs are actually met. Rhoda definitely does not meet the level of self-actualization because she has no desire for self-fulfillment and growth. She also meets the level of esteem and belonging because every adult sees her as a perfect little girl on the outside and all of her family members love her. Safety is probably the need that is met at the highest quality because Rhoda lives in a nice and peaceful neighborhood while having a father that is a colonel in the national military. Her physiological or basic needs are met helped by her familyââ¬â¢s fortune and being spoiled herself. Rhodaââ¬â¢s behavior disproves Maslowââ¬â¢s theories about humankindââ¬â¢s essential nature because this particular theory is more to healthy people rather than someone who is mentally ill. There are many arguments going on about whether evil comes from hereditary or genetic mind rather than from the environment that one lives in. According to the movie ââ¬Å"The Bad Seedâ⬠, evil can come from both genetic mind and the environment. For example, it is revealed that Christine actually came from parents that were murders and was adopted by normal parents at a young age. Christine eventually grows up to an adult that is very mature and kind who would never have a single thought about killing anyone for any purpose. If evil was to be based on only genetics, wouldnââ¬â¢t Christine have ended up becoming a dangerous killer following her parentââ¬â¢s footsteps? Instead because Christine lived in a safe and benevolent environment that she is the complete opposite to her parents. However, even though Rhoda lived in a perfectly nice environment she still ended up becoming mentally ill. This could have been a genetic problem as Rhodaââ¬â¢s grandmother was a dangerous killer and could have passed on the heredity to Rhoda reason being her so vicious to others. The ideas presented in ââ¬Å"The Bad Seedâ⬠were seen shocking to audiences in the 1950ââ¬â¢s because people obviously think that a criminal mind is from their environment instead of genetics or heredity. However, the movie provided some evidence that criminal minds could actually develop genetically as Rhoda was to her grandmother. This possible proof shocked the audience because most probably believed the idea wasnââ¬â¢t even thought of during the time.

Free Essays on Steven Account Of Normandy Invasion
Normandy Invasion The battle plan, code-named Operation Overlord, called for the largest amphibious assault ever to start the liberation of occupied Europe from Nazi Germany. It began in the early morning hours of June 6, 1944, now known as D-Day. Thousands of American, British, Canadian, and French soldiers-backed by paratroopers, bombers, and warships-stormed a 50-mile stretch of French beach called Normandy. This "invasion of Normandy" was the greatest event to occur between the years of 1919 and 1945. D-day was the beginning of the end of the war. The invasion of Normandy allowed the Allied forces to get their soldiers back on the European mainland and to start defeating Germany. It was the major turning point of World War II and perhaps one of the greatest strategic military operations that was ever created. As the outcome of World War II began to change in favor of the Allies, U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower had the task of forming the largest naval invasion in history. If it was executed as planned, the landing would be the starting point for the massive attack on Germany. The attack would move eastward through France and into Germany territory. In May, while millions of troops and equipment poured into the staging area of southern Britain, the Allies created a decoy. False radio transmissions and rows of inflated rubber tanks and landing craft were positioned far from the true sight. This kept the Germans confused about the size of the attack. It also fooled them about were they thought it was going to be. The invasion of northern France from England was not launched in May, as it was planned originally, but on June 6. A huge fighting force had been assembled, including 1,200 fighting ships, 10,000 planes, 4,126 landing craft, 804 transport ships, and hundreds of amphibious and other special purpose tanks. During the operation, 156,000 troops landed in Normandy. 73,000 of them were American. They stormed by air and by se... Human Resource Management in Practice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words - 1
Human Resource Management in Practice - Essay Example eed to know how human resources (HR) are managed in different regions of the world and how their counterparts in different parts of the globe perceive or react to similar concepts and pressures. It is also important to have an understanding about the main determinants of HRM policies and practices in different regional and national settings. Academics have responded positively to meet the challenges raised by the globalization of business by investigating a number of issues and problems related to international business . They have attempted to examine management from a cross-national viewpoint. This comparison of HRM policies and practices at a national level helps to test the convergenceââ¬âdivergence thesis. The typical questions pursued by comparative researchers are: (1) how is HRM structured in individual countries. (2) What strategies are discussed? (3) What is put into practice? (4) What are the similarities and differences? (5) What is the influence of national factors such as culture, government policy, and education systems? Scholars have also developed and proposed different models of HRM both between and within nations ((Mullins P.97ââ¬â99, 2002)). Interestingly, most models of HRM have an Angloââ¬âSaxon base. As such, from a global perspective, principles of HRM have been developed from a restricted sample of human experience. During the infancy stage of HRM literature, such an ethnocentric approach was understandable and unavoidable. However, with the growth of a ââ¬Å"global business village,â⬠firms operating in different countries need appropriate information and guidance to develop their HRM policies and practices. Under such dynamic business conditions, the relevance of lessons learned from the Angloââ¬âSaxon experience is questionable. It is therefore important to examine the extent to which Angloââ¬âSaxon models of HRM are applicable in other parts of the world. It has now become clear that the study of HRM needs a cross-national comparative

Batesvile Casket Company Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Batesvile Casket Company - Essay Example They held the opinion that handling their customerââ¬â¢s needs was the path to success. They placed the utmost importance on customer satisfaction and consistently introduced improvement in their processes through technological innovation to provide speedy and better service to their customers. How New Technology Can Build Competitive Position The revolution in information technology is causing significant reduction in the cost of getting, processing and transmitting information. Information technology involves not just computers but encompasses the entire information that is used and created in a business, and the interlinked and convergent technologies that carry out processing of the information. The company faces a wide array of questions, namely how the technology can help them gain competitive advantage, what strategies can be used to obtain the maximum benefit of the technology and out of many options investment in which technology would yield the maximum benefit. The revol ution in information system has changed the structure of the industry and impacted competition. It has shown ways to companies to outperform their rivals; it creates the opportunity for businesses to realize the scope of new businesses from their existing ones (Porter & Miller, 1985). The implementation of new technology helps an organization to achieve competitive advantage over their competitors. James J. Kuisel, the MIS Director of Batesville Casket Company believed that the implementation of new technology would help them to gain leadership in the market. They were able to achieve remarkable cost reduction through the use of client/server network at the PC of the customer service center rather than the mainframe computer. The data was transferred from the client server to the mainframe. They were the pioneers in adopting a new PC development tool known as Knowledge-Man in the 1980s which helped them to reduce the cycle time. It was implemented by them faster than their competito rs. The MIS and the logistics department worked in conjunction and were able to reduce paperwork and thus serve customers faster. They did this at a time when competitors were still using paper based system. Initially, in 1990 the hardware that was used for customer service center was an early IBM PC. The system was obsolete and needed to be replaced. The software was required to be upgraded to the latest version of Knowledge ââ¬âMan. The logistic department expected upgrade of the distribution and manufacturing system. Bar coding of the model number of each casket helped in automated tracking and identification of caskets. A bar code reader was placed at the loading dock of the customer service center that was connected via radio frequency link to the PC of the customer service center. A system for maintaining records of orders, maintaining inventory based on model number was established to serve customers better. Batesville continuously upgraded their technology to provide bet ter service to customers. They replaced their hardware, decided on operating systems and revised their software. They introduced IBM PS/2 Model A16 which had a memory of 4 megabytes, colored monitor, math coprocessor, mouse and hard disc of 160 megabyte. They installed Epson LQ1170 and Hayes 9600 Ultra external modem.
