Summary: This article was an introduction to the Holocaust. The German Nazi’s thought that the Jews were a community. Not only the Jews were targeted, anyone with a racial inferiority was targeted. For example, although the Jews were the main threat the gypsies, Jehovah’s witnesses, and homosexuals and the disabled were also targeted. The Holocaust was a way to decrease the Jewish population; the final solution was to murder the Jews of Europe or anyone that was a threat to their German culture. Many died of incarceration and maltreatment. During the war they created ghettos, forced-labor camps between 1941 and 1944 the Nazi German Authorities would deport the Jews to extermination camps where they were murdered in gassing facilities. May 7, 1945 the German armed forces surrendered to the allies. After the Holocaust, many survivors found shelter in displaced shelter camps provided by the allied powers. The significance of milestones Milestones are usually grouped together in five major areas which are to be assessed during the growth and development of a child. They are: physical growth, cognitive development, language development, and sensory and motor development. The assessment of the physical development of a child is very important during the growth and development of a child from infancy to adolescence and also the later years, it helps in that it allows the parents of the child as well as health care workers to see if there are any abnormalities in the child during this period of time. The study was conducted in the presence of a nine year old child where in all the following areas of development were observed physical development, cognitive development, and social and emotional development. Letters were sent to the parents of the child explaining the reason of the research and the different areas that were being observed. The researcher presented herself in a modest way so that the child would feel a sense of comfort while under observation. The study was conducted over a four day period where the following findings were observed. Day One On day one the area of focus was physical development. The writer started out by assessing Amanda (not her real name) who is nine years old, she weighs ninety pounds and measures 4feet 9inches. Being that she is nine years old, she has passed the some of her milestones which includes sitting up and rolling over. The researcher also asked the parents of the child other questions such as; at what age did she start creeping? At what age did she start creeping? At what age she began sitting up on her own? Among a host of other questions pertaining to her growth and development physically. This was to find out if the child had any physical disabilities during her earlier stages of growing and developing. The writer further went on to investigate how much the child could follow instructions. As a result the child was then asked to get dressed both formally and informally. The instructions were followed accordingly. She was able to dress herself properly; this allowed the researcher to see how well the child can follow instructions when given. She is able to understand, analyze and follow the directions when given. After looking at how the child followed instructions in regards to getting dressed, the researcher went on to observe how the child manipulated objects. This was done by placing the child in an area where different types of objects were present. She was able to differentiate between shapes and the objects that were present. Jigsaw puzzles were solved, shapes were recognized and the child was able to identify other objects in and around the play area. This indicated that the child while at play displayed great sensory motor skills and can use them effectively; she also seems to be well alert and has a great sense of humor she also seems to deal with different types of situations how they ought to be dealt with. Day Two On day two the researcher’s main area of focus was on cognitive development, this area of focus is mainly linked to Piaget’s theory of cognitive development. Jean Piaget’s theory of cognitive development focuses on four stages. They are: sensory motor, pre operations, concrete operations and formal operations. Piaget observed that cognitive development refers to changes that occur in an individual’s cognitive structure, ability to process from childhood to adulthood. Piaget went on to state that at this stage (concrete operations 7-11), the child should be able to; conceptualize effectively, solve problems easily and create logics based on his or her cognitive experiences. The child observed was able to have discussions on a more logical basis and gave positive responses. The child was able to sit with the researcher and have discussions about her life as a little girl. She was asked different questions such as; what she would like to become in the future? How big would she like her house to be? What type of car would she like to own? Among others, she gave positive responses and seems to be well prepared for her future. She gave response such as; â€Å"I would like to become a doctor and have my own business running different from my career such as a super market or a toy store for little kids, I would also like to own a three story house with two Toyota motor vehicles and my house is going to be surrounded by some big pit bull dogs and will be under twenty four hour security protection†. The researcher noted how effective the child was able to use the English language. She speaks the English Language fluently for a child her age. Many factors though is said to have contributed to this as the mother recalls that during her pregnancy, she read a lot. The child is provided with the proper printed resources and education friendly. The child is also provided with games that will enhance her memory she has both printed and electronically inclined games to enhance her memory. This type of environment enables her to gain the knowledge and necessary skills required to be able to: 1) reason effectively, 2) solve problems effectively, 3)explore the environment. 4) have a good memory. The child was always corrected whenever she makes a mistake. Hence, the child has a full advantage of how to speak English language as to Creole which is dominant in her community. In Piaget’s theory of cognitive development the child has passed the first two stages which are sensory motor (stage one) and pre operations (stage two). The child is presently at the concrete operations which she is almost completed all the activities that are to be done at this stage effectively. Day Three and Four The area of focus on days three and four were social and emotional development. Social and emotional development is a very important aspect of development in a child’s life. It is normally harder to pinpoint than other signs of development such as physical development. This area emphasizes many skills that increase self-awareness and self-regulation The researcher observed the child while she was interacting with some of her friends that came over to her house, since this was the most convenient to the researcher as well as to the child. Based on the observations the child seems to have communicated well and had no difficulty responding and interacting with her peers. At play the child seemed to be enthused and played well with her friends. She seemed to be the leader of everything they did in their peer group and was always quick to correct her friends whenever any of them made any mistakes. This is a clear indication that Amanda has no difficulties when interacting with her peers, and also seem to have pleasure during interaction with others. During meal time, the researcher had the opportunity to sit with the family for a few minutes to observe Amanda at meal time. She seems to have good etiquettes and knows how to conduct herself when she is around the table and was correcting her smaller sister when she did not conform to the table rules. She was also sharing with her parents what her teacher taught her at school about do’s and don’ts while sitting around the table at meal time. She was able to maneuver the knife and fork properly and she was enthused in sharing some of the family traditions and norms that were passed down to her by her family with the researcher she also gave her view point on them when asked. She seems to have good communicating skills and enjoys interaction with her peers, family and also with others. When interacting with her friend she explained to them that she does not like to be shouted at also whenever her mother talks to her in a rough manner he goes to sit by herself and appears to be sad. 31 Types of Writing Jobs from Home (With Minimal Effort to Start)

Interested in working from home? Ive been an online writer for five years now and I make a living with writing jobs I do from home. Ive always loved writing and as a teen, I often wrote poems and short stories. I was also the student in college that loved writing research papers! Yes, I was that person! Did you know there are many different types of writing jobs from home? I didnt know that when I first started either. Over time though, I learned all the different types of freelance jobs for writers and what type of services they requested. To prepare you as an online writer, I want to share with you different types of writing you might do from home. You can pick one or several types of writing jobs from this list for your business. Writing Jobs from Home 1. Blog Writing Jobs Blogging is by far the most popular type of content online that business want. It’s also the easiest to find work for since there are many job boards that cater to blog writing jobs. Blog posts are typically between 800-1500 words and can include certain keywords for ranking in Google, magnetic headlines to draw people in and a call-to-action at the end of a post. You can niche down your blog writing to focus on long-form blog writing which means producing blog posts between 2,000-5,000 words long. These writing jobs from home are usually in-depth and require insider industry knowledge. Generally, blog posts are conversational and are written for the audience. You could write blog posts for small businesses, brands, coaches or other entrepreneurs. The blog topics vary from providing educational content to something more entertaining. If you pick up blog writing jobs know that many businesses need this type of content on a consistent basis. So, blog writing is a great recurring gig. More than half of my clients require weekly blog content. It’s consistent, reliable and fun to do. 2. Ghostwriting Jobs Ghostwriting is when you – the ghost writer – writes online content for businesses, brands, magazines or entrepreneurs and isnt credited for it. You don’t receive any credit for your writing, so you can’t display your piece on your portfolio or market it on social media as your own. Why would you ghostwrite if you want to get your name out there and land clients? Because it’s a highly lucrative field. You can charge up to 3x more for a ghostwritten piece than for a piece with your author byline. I have several ghostwriting clients and I’m interested in obtaining even more. I find these clients are easy to please and pay well. 3. Article Writing Jobs Both magazines and websites alike depend on article writers to provide new and unique content. There are many types of writing jobs from home and it just comes down to what you are interested in and what youre experienced in. Articles are more in-depth than blog posts and are usually journalistic in nature. For example, it may require interviews or for you to go search out a story. I was asked to do a story about buying a car from a female’s perspective. This writing job required me to actually go to a dealership and test drive a car. Articles pay well – upwards towards a $1 a word – but they’re not usually recurring. Some magazines publish monthly or quarterly, rather than weekly. I encourage you to research further and narrow down your field of writing. For example, if you are interested in writing copy, then you can choose to pursue Etsy sellers or bigger websites or even stores that need catalog copy. Maybe you are interested in op-ed pieces, then you can choose to look into publications and magazines for that type of copy. 4. Press Release Writing Jobs A press release is a written statement to the media. It’s used by a business to announce accomplishments, scheduled events, a launch, new products or even sales accomplishments. They continually need talented press writers to turn out newsworthy content and to get it placed in media outlets. I was asked to write a press release for a new meal delivery service. They wanted to get the word out about their product launching in their city. Press releases are typically short – 400 to 800 words – but can be a couple of pages long. There’s usually a system to writing a press release, so once you do one, you can use the same template on other press releases. For example, publicity firms can charge hundreds of dollars just to write these types of press releases. Many of these companies charge $325 per release. That said, offering $200 or lower to write a press release would be a steal for businesses that want this type of content. 5. Technical Writing Jobs If you have a strong technology background, then technical writing would fit right into your writing niche. There’s a great demand for WordPress writing, coding tutorials, web development tutorials and much more. Technical writers can also write manuals for companies, policies and procedure documents, technical guides and handbooks, evaluation reports, and research reports. Typically, a business hires an online writer to make their dry and boring guide more user-friendly. So, it’s our job to bring a little conversational element to a business’ guide. Technical writing can be a profitable writing service because there’s a high demand for this writing, but not a lot of freelancers supplying it. 6. White Paper Writing Jobs Many businesses use white papers as a marketing tactic, much like case studies. These papers are informative and designed to show off the product or service of the company. One of my clients had me write a white paper for recruiters on the common mistakes they make when hiring new people. Papers like these are written in a more academic setting, without the fluff online writing may have. White papers are also lucrative – that the average price for a white paper is $5000 to $7000 – but they can be time-consuming and it’s not for everyone. White papers are also a one-off job and arent recurring unless you are already a writer for this client. This type of writing job from home, though, is highly profitable because it takes more skill to write a white paper than it is to write a blog post. 7. SEO Writing Jobs SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Its purpose is to assist websites in ranking high in the Google search results. This is a big industry and many companies hire SEO businesses to help them with this. There are usually two types of clients seeking SEO content: Ones that require short writing pieces with relevant keywords placed throughout the post. Clients often batch these assignments and offer a low rate. For example, they may want 30 short posts for $10. Those types of writing jobs can be found on content mills or freelance market places like Upwork. The other writing job project may give you the keywords they want you to use and its your job to know where to place those keywords in your content to optimize that post for ranking in Google. These clients are typically good paying and value writing. If you’re new and not sure if you’re ready to make the leap into having a freelance business, you may want to consider doing some fast and small jobs like SEO writing. It will certainly give you the skills you need to write posts and it will introduce you to invoices and online payment systems. 8. B2C Writing Jobs This is business-to-customer writing that focusses on product-based content. This type of writing job  is a little more fun and creative. You are writing directly from the business to the consumer. There would be few how-to types of content and more review, buying guides and tutorial-based content. For example, Walmart has a blog that focuses on B2C content. I enjoy writing B2C content because its more relaxed, conversational and the topic ideas for B2C is usually fun and creative. 9. B2B Writing Jobs This is business-to-business writing and tends to have quite a few rules and is less creative than B2C writing jobs. You are writing for a business to sell to other businesses. For example, writing for GoDaddy.com. There are different types of B2B writing jobs. The first is small brick and mortar businesses attempting to have an online presence or small online businesses. This can be your local auto insurance company or it could be a background security check firm. These small businesses usually hire ghostwriters to write for their blog or write their marketing content. The other camp is online businesses that cater to a large online audience and customer base. For example, I had a writing job for OptinMonster. My content spoke directly to small online business owners such as entrepreneurs and professional bloggers. Business to business writing is highly profitable and it is what has helped me make a living from writing. 10. Video Script Writing Jobs Even YouTube videos and commercials rely on script writing. Large websites who wish to expand its content into video will need freelance scriptwriters to help. And this is the perfect time to start looking at script writing jobs. The video marketing industry is an ever growing industry and it isnt stopping anytime soon. Entrepreneurs, bloggers, coaches and the like are creating videos – for example with online courses – and will seek out script writing to help their audience find the best way to learn their tactics. 11. Course Writing Jobs Piggybacking on script writing, you can also do some course writing jobs from home. As previously mentioned, businesses are opening up to a new content marketing strategy and using online learning to fulfill that space. Ive had previous clients wanting me to create course lessons for their digital marketing courses. These projects are usually huge projects that might take months to complete, but they are usually profitable for you! 12. Case Studies Many businesses use case studies as a marketing tactic to acquire more business. Case studies are used to tell the successes of their clients using their product or services. They demonstrate how a client found great results by using a particular product or service. Typically you would write a case study about an individual or a company. You may be asked to write a case study or use case studies in your content. For example, for one of my clients, they liked to feature a lot of case studies in their blog posts. I either researched the company or I interviewed one of the managers of the company. I then  presented the analysis  of how a company achieved results in a certain part of their business. 13. Copywriting Jobs Stores need someone to write unique and engaging blurbs for all of their products. Copywriting uses the psychology of marketing to help businesses with promoting their brand and products. You may write landing pages, web copy, sales pages, call-to-actions, marketing campaigns or any type of content used to convert a user into a customer. Recently, I landed a copywriting job – web copy – and I’m finding it a new experience to grow from. The only downside to copywriting is that it’s not recurring and often is a one-time gig. But, you might be surprised if the client is happy. They will contact you for other landing pages and marketing campaigns. The thing to remember with copywriting is that you are weaving in story-telling and writing to sell. 14. Email Marketing Writing Jobs Did you know that writing emails for companies is a big business? Writing email marketing campaigns is no joke. Businesses know that the  money is in the list, so having a highly conversion email is important for their business strategy. Email is where businesses cultivate warm leads and turn them into potential buyers. As an online writer for email marketing campaigns, you may be responsible for writing sales funnels, opt-in funnels and emails alerting subscribers of the latest deals and products. You would also be responsible for writing engaging newsletters and email headings. Many businesses depend on their email list to boost sales and increase customer interaction. 15. Magazine Writing Jobs Most of the content for magazine writing jobs will be article writing that is more journalistic than conversational. Your medium is things like trade publications, magazines, educational publications, and newspapers. There’s typically a certain style guide you have to follow like the Associated Press or Canadian Press. One of my first writing gigs was the online version of a city’s newspaper. As such, I have to adhere to the Canadian Press way of writing. 16. Social Media Writing Jobs Some businesses rely heavily on their social media presence. They need to update their accounts every day, but this can be time-consuming for an entrepreneur or small business owner. While most companies wouldn’t just hire a freelance writer to do all their social media, you may be hired to do a couple of things such as: editing blog posts, writing blog posts and handling their social media account. Editing Jobs Editing is an easy addition to your freelance writing services since you already have to edit your own pieces before you submit them. There are generally three editing types you can perform for clients: Proofreading – this means having a quick look at your content and checking for comma mistakes, spelling errors, or inconsistencies such as sometimes not capitalizing CTA in the piece. It doesn’t require much re-writing. Basic editing – this requires more involvement than proofreading. On top of checking for spelling mistakes and punctuation mistakes, you are also checking stats and syntax. Developmental editing – this is the most intrusive of all editing and the most expensive for businesses to hire out. With this type of editing, you’re changing entire sentences and paragraphs. You’re adding new concepts and ideas. 18. Real Estate Writing Jobs Real estate agents need freelancers for a few different projects. For example, they may need writers experienced in SEO to help potential clients find their real estate site in their city. They also need writers to write engaging house listings that sell. As such, this type of content is industry-specific and requires a writer that knows the real estate industry inside and out. Because of this type of specific information, real estate writing jobs are highly profitable. 19. Product Description Writing Jobs Graphic design companies or printing companies often have clients that sell a wide array of products and goods. Many of these businesses seek out a writer that can produce highly optimized, SEO-driven product descriptions. If you have a knack for condensing information into 60-80 word blurbs, then you can niche yourself out as the product description writer! 20. Content Writing Jobs Content writing jobs from home are becoming more and more popular. With more people starting blogs every day, they are inadvertently learning the skills they need to be a content writer! Things like: Uploading content into a content management platform like WordPress Customizing their blog Creating lead magnets (free guides) to grow their email list Creating products and sales pages Writing blog posts to grow traffic and income All of these skills bloggers use can be used to help businesses with their content. From blog writing to writing lead magnets to growing their email list, there is no shortage of this type of writing jobs from home! 21. eCommerce Writing Jobs eCommerce companies have huge catalogs of products and big marketing budgets to get their brand out there. Many of these businesses seek out writers to write web copy for their products, buyer guides, brand guides, or category descriptions. Much of your writing might go to their distribution channels like Amazon or social media. 22. Gift Guide Writing Jobs Gift Guide writing jobs are a blend of product description writing and blog writing. Many brands and businesses use gift guides as a way to monetize their brand and share on social media. These guides need to be conversational and relatable to the people reading them. Instead of dry, feature-based content with no flair, gift guide writing jobs need a writer that is well versed in writing blogs and that understands online writing in general. One of my newest clients hired me for their gift guide campaign and their rate for an 1800 word gift guide is $500. This is a great writing gig for beginners and an easy way to gain some recurring writing jobs from home. 23. Grant Writing Jobs A grant writer creates research proposals that request funding from various government agencies. Grant writing is usually hired out by non-profits, universities, and the social service and healthcare field. A proposal involves writing the application, describing the reasons for funding and giving an overview of the applicant and its intentions. Grant writing has a steep learning curve to it, but once you pick it up, your help will be valuable (and profitable) to non-profit organizations. 24. Business Plan Writing Jobs New businesses and start-ups are launching every day. Just because someone is great at business does not mean they are a great wordsmith. Thats where you come in! If youve had experience in business planning and drafting up business plan proposals then this type of writing job can be your thing! 25. Legal Writing Jobs Law firms produce a lot of paperwork, so the help of a writer who knows legal lingo will be a great asset to any law firm. But for this profitable writing niche, you wont be able to fake it until you make it. You have to have had experience in a law firm or with legal writing to gain some writing jobs for lawyers. 26. News Writing Jobs A news writer is required to write the daily happenings before everyone else. Writing in this field is fast-paced and requires tight writing. I view this as the freelance journalist that travels or goes where the story goes. I researched my local newspaper to see if they hire freelance writers and you know what? They do. In this instance, they hire out stories and it’s your job to go interview the person or experience the story (like go to a soccer game) so you can write about it. While this was an awesome opportunity, at the time, it was something I couldn’t do (my schedule wouldn’t allow it). But, it was a great experience nonetheless. 27. Resume Writing Jobs Help others land the job of their dream while making some cash on the side. Many people need help with perfecting their resume and you can make that happen as a resume writer. While there are many resume writing service agencies available, you dont have to work under an agency. Having a writing job at home means you can contract the work out or offer it as a freelance service. I would head up schools, universities and friends family to find some potential gigs. 28. Quiz Writing Jobs One of the best remote writing jobs you can have is a quiz writing job. Believe it or not, but quizzes are becoming a very hot tool for brands and their social media marketing strategy. For example, Ramit Sethi of I Will Teach You to Be Rich uses a quiz as a way to gain subscribers to his email list. Many of these writing jobs can be found on social media 29. Greeting Card Writing Jobs An usual writing job you can do at home is creating greeting card blurbs for art and card companies. Finding these types of jobs might require some research online and social media. Simple running a Google search can help you find card companies that accepts paid submissions like: Calypso Cards RSVP Blue Mountain Arts 30. Book Writing Jobs You can start writing covers for books that you write for your own pleasure, but you can also write ebooks for websites and businesses. These are usually ghostwritten and allow the company to have something to give to consumers. A blogger or person might also want a book written about their life, business or product. They have a hard time writing it, so they hire it out to an online writer. The process of writing an eBook can be different for each gig. One gig may already have notes; you just have to combine them into a compelling story. Another person may want you to interview them and then use your notes to create an eBook. Still, others just need a short eBook for a â€Å"freebie† they can give to their email subscribers. I wrote part of an eBook for a digital marketer. He supplied the points and I just expanded them. I never did eBook writing before because I assumed they were 60,000-word books and very time-consuming. It was a great learning experience and I am now open to taking on more book clients. 31. Web Writing Jobs A website writer writes content that you see on websites. The demand for it is higher than ever. Businesses of all stages and sizes – whether it’s a new startup that’s just tapping into the online world and creating a website, or an established company that’s expanding and needs more pages on their site – are looking for web content writers. As a web content writer, you would be working on a variety of pages, including (but not limited to) homepages, about pages, FAQs, product description pages, â€Å"Why Us?† pages, and more. Pricing varies depending on the length and depth of the site, but $50 to $75 per page is a VERY reasonable starting rate. Sites for Online Writing Jobs As you can see, many of these gigs need minimal effort from you. If you are capable of writing some of these types of gigs like greeting cards, web copy or emails, then you can get started easily. Conversation Topics for College Office Hours Its no secret: college professors can be intimidating. After all, theyre super smart and in charge of your education- not to mention your grades. That being said, of course, college professors can also be really interesting, really engaging people. Your professors likely encourage you to come speak with them during office hours. And you may, in fact, have a question or two youd like to ask. If youd like a few additional topics to have on hand for your conversation, consider any of the following  things to talk to your professor about: Your Current Class If youre currently taking a class with a professor, you can easily talk about the class. What do you like about it? What do you find really interesting and engaging? What do the other students like about it? What recently happened in class that youd like more information on, that you found helpful, or that was just plain funny? An Upcoming Class If your professor is teaching a class next semester or next year that youre interested in, you can easily talk about it. You can ask about the reading load, what kinds of topics will be covered, what expectations the professor has for the class and for students taking the class, and even what the syllabus will look like. A Previous Class You Really Enjoyed Theres nothing wrong with talking to a professor about a previous class you took with him or her that you really enjoyed. You can talk about what specifically you found interesting and ask if your professor can suggest other classes or supplemental reading so that you can pursue your interests further. Graduate School Options If youre thinking about graduate school- even just a tiny bit- your professors can be great resources for you. They can talk to you about different programs of study, what youre interested in, what graduate schools would be a good match for your interests, and even what life as a graduate student is like. Employment Ideas It could be that you absolutely love botany but have no idea what you can do with a botany degree once you graduate. A professor can be a great person to talk to about your options (in addition to the career center, of course). Additionally, they may know of internships, job opportunities, or professional contacts that can help you along the way. Anything Covered in Class That You Loved If you recently went over a topic or theory in class that you absolutely loved, mention it to your professor! It will undoubtedly be rewarding for him or her to hear about, and you can find out more about a topic you didnt know youd love. Anything Youre Struggling With in Class Your professor can be a great- if not the best- resource for getting clarity or more information about something youre struggling with. Additionally, a one-on-one conversation with your professor can provide you with an opportunity to walk through an idea and ask questions in a way that you simply cannot do in a large lecture hall. Academic Difficulties If youre facing larger academic struggles, dont be too afraid to mention it to a professor you like. He or she might have some ideas to help you out, might be able to connect you with resources on campus (like tutors or an academic support center), or just might give you a great pep talk that helps your refocus and recharge. Personal Problems That Are Impacting Your Academics While professors arent counselors, its still important for you to let them know about any personal problems youre facing that might be having an effect on your academics. If someone in your family is very sick, for example, or if youre financially struggling because of an unexpected change in financial status, it might be helpful for your professor to know. Additionally, it can be wise to mention these kinds of situations to your professor when they first appear instead of when they become a problem. How Current Events Connect With the Course Material Many times, the material(s) covered in class are large theories and concepts that dont always seem like they connect to your day-to-day life. In reality, however, they often do. Feel free to talk with your professor about current events and how they might connect to what youre learning in class. A Letter of Recommendation If youre doing well in class and you think your professor likes and respects your work, consider  asking your professor for a letter of recommendation  if you need one. Letters of recommendation that have been written by professors can be especially helpful when youre applying for certain types of internships or even graduate school or research opportunities. Study Tips It can be all too easy to forget that professors were once undergraduate students, too. And just like you, they likely had to learn  how to study at the college level. If youre struggling with study skills, talk to your professor about what theyd recommend. This can be an especially helpful and important conversation to have before an important midterm or final, too. Resources on Campus That Can Help Academically Even if your professor wants to help you more, he or she might simply not have the time. Consider, then, asking your professor about other academic support resources that you can use, like a specific upper-class or graduate-level student whos a great tutor or a great TA who offers extra study sessions. Scholarship Opportunities Your professor undoubtedly receives regular mailings and emails about scholarship opportunities for students interested in certain academic fields. Consequently, checking in with your professors about any scholarship opportunities they know about might easily result in some helpful leads that you might otherwise not find out about. Jop Opportunities True, the career center and your own professional network can be your main sources of job leads. But professors can also be a great resource to tap into. Make an appointment with your professor to talk generally about your job hopes or options as well as what connections your professor might know about. You never know what former students they still keep in touch with, what organizations they volunteer with, or what other connections they may have to offer. Dont let your nervousness about talking with your professors disconnect you from what could be a great future job!

Apple chose this strategy so they could retain profit and ensure profit is not lost by financing other companys profit margins. The practice behind this theory is to heavily finance research and development and have had the necessary means of production to cover all areas of the business. Marketing and advertising are also a key component in Apple strategy to have a better market position. Founded in 1976, Apple built its early reputation on innovative personal computers that were particularly easy for customers to use and as a result were priced higher than those of competitors. The inspiration for this strategy came from a visit by the founders of the company- Steven Jobs and Steven Wozniack- to the Palo Alto research laboratories of the Xerox company in 1979. They observed that Xerox had developed an early version of a computer interface screen with the drop-down menus that are widely used today on all personal computers. Jobs and Wozniack took the concept back to apple and developed their own computer- the Apple Macintosh (Mac) that used this consumer friendly interface. The Macintosh was launched in 1984 but Apple did not sell or share the software to rival companies. Over the next few years, this non-co-operation strategy turned out to be a major weakness for Apple. Although the Mac had initial success, its software was threatened by the introduction of windows 1.0 from the rival company Microsoft, whose chief executive was the well-known Bill Gates. Microsofts strategy was to make this software widely available to other computer manufacturers for a license fee- quite unlike Apple. A legal dispute arose between Apple and Microsoft because windows had many on-screen similarities to the Apple product. Eventually, Microsoft signed an agreement with Apple saying that it would not use Mac technology in windows 1.0 Unlike Microsoft with its focus on software strategy, Apple remained a full-line computer manufacturer from that time, supplying both the hardware and software. Apple continued to develop various innovative computers and related products. Early successes included the Mac2 and PowerBooks along with the worlds first desktop publishing programme- PageMaker. This latter remains today the leading programme of its kind. It is widely used around the world in publishing and fashion houses. It remains exclusive to Apple and means that the company has a specialist market where it has real competitive advantage and can charge higher prices. Not all Apples new products were successful- the Newton personal digital assistant did not sell well. Apples high price policy for its products and difficulties in manufacturing also meant that innovative products like the iBook had trouble competing in the personal computer market place. In the year 2000, Apple identified a new corporate strategy to exploit the growing worldwide market in personal electronic devices- CD players, MP3 players, digital cameras etc. It would launch its own Apple version of these products to add high-value, user friendly software. Resulting products included iMovie for digital cameras and iDVD for DVD players. The iPod was launched in 2001 and was followed by the iTunes Music store in 2003 in USA and 2004 in Europe. The product has proven unbelievably successful; over 100 million units have been sold in the six years since its introduction. In 2003, Apples iTunes Store was introduced, offering online music downloads in integration with the iPod. The service quickly became the market leader in online music services, with over 3 billion downloads by August 2007. Steve Jobs announced that iTunes had reached 4 billion downloads during his keynote address at the 2008 Macworld Conference Expo. The iTunes was essentially an agreement with the worlds 5 leading record companies to allow legal downloaded of music tracks using the internet for 99 cents each. This was a major success for Apple- it had persuaded the record companies to adopt a different approach to the problem of music piracy. At the time, this revolutionary agreement was unique to Apple and was due to the negotiating skills of Steve Jobs, the Apple chief executive, and his network of contacts in the industry. By 2005, Apples music player- the iPod- was the premium priced, stylish market leader with around 60% of the world sales. Its iTunes download software had been redeveloped to allow it to work with all windows compatible computers (about 90% of all PCs) and it had around 70% of the world music download market, the market being worth around US$330 million per annum. However, by 2005, all the major companies like Sony, Philips and Panasonic were catching up fast with new launches that were just as stylish, cheaper and with more capacity. Apples competitors were even reaching agreements with the record companies to provide legal downloading of music from websites. Another Example of the likely competition came from the mobile telephone market leader, Nokia, and the dominant software company Microsoft. In February 2005, they jointly announced that all new Nokia mobile phones would come with Microsofts Windows media 10, allowing downloading of music from PCs onto mobile phones- yet another threat to apple. However Apple was the market leader and was able to demonstrate major increases in sales and profits from the development of iPod and iTunes by early 2005. One thing that has been established is that Apple releases a few versions of one great computer and then offers new software that easily integrates with the other software. Well, Apple has a lot of software that only within the last 4 or so years began to integrate with PC things as well as hardware. For this reason Apple has only been able to gain supplies from a limited set of suppliers, leaving Apple in a vulnerable position. However, one of Apples competencies is a great designing department. The Life and Times of William Rufus de Vane King William Rufus de Vane King was a distinguished politician who concluded his remarkable political career by being elected the Vice-President under Franklin Pierce’s pro-slavery ticket. However, he is the only person to be elected to that office that never actually served as vice-president. Without doing this, King is known through history as a popular and pre-eminent politician from Alabama. Besides being the only vice-president elected to not serve his term, he is the only United States official to take the oath of office on foreign land. Instead of taking the oath of office in the nation’s capital, William King took the oath in Havana, Cuba. Unfortunately, less than one week after Inauguration Day, King died at the age of sixty-seven of tuberculosis. In those years prior to his death, King made several pertinent contributions to the United States political system. King began his life on April 7, 1786. He was born on a lovely spring day in Sampson County, North Carolina. His inheritance from different backgrounds was evident. The values and morals that his parents instilled within him caused young King’s actions. His father was of Irish descent that was a planter who sometimes served in the state legislature. His father also served dutifully during the Revolutionary War and was a member of the convention that was called to adopt the federal constitution. His mother had a touch of Huguenot ancestry. William King was a tall and slender man. His physique was gracefully erect, and he was always generous and courteous. This characteristic came from the upbringing from his parents.
